<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yes - I am going to start a new thread and put some examples of good lengths on the thread. I am going to be PMing people with good signature examples and asking them to post on the new thread. The examples will be maximums.Originally posted by cami713:
Sorry, Melissa, I did feel singled out. I know I shouldn't have, but, I did. I really should have PMed you about it, I'm sorry.
Judi, I like the current sample. Is there going to be a new post about it so people can fix there's accordingly? I really think a 3X5 size is perfect. That should accomadate a list, link and small picture if someone wishes. Or 2 tickers and a list, or many other combinations.
So, anything less is great, of course.
Melissa - thanks for pointing out that people here post on other HB forums. I didn't think about that. I am not going to do an official poll. I think I will start with the guidelines I posted before and we can tweak it as needed. I think everyone interested has had enough time to weigh in. I will probably do the new thread on Sunday leaving one more day for people to weigh in.
1. Large pictures load very quickly for me because I have cable internet. However, when I use my parents' computer, it takes an eternity for pics to show up. (They have dial-up). So I feel the pain of those with dial-up connections!
2. At the risk of sounding harsh, I personally would love to see NO TICKERS WHATSOEVER. AG related or not.
3. I guess the lines of text really should depend on how much other stuff you have in your signature. If you have a big picture, probably no more than a few lines to go with it.
4. I'm more for a general guideline, and showing people good examples of reasonably sized signatures. I for one am lost when it comes to bytes and pixels and although I know there are plenty of knowledgeable people here to help with that, it's still intimidating.
In general, I am all for keeping signatures as short and sweet as possible. I think a lot of the signature pics are cute, but overall the board does seem a little cluttered to me at times. I can't say I don't miss the days when signatures were just a link to an album and a sentence or two. I feel an avatar picture and a quote in your sig is more than enough to show a bit of your personality. I would rather focus on what people say in their posts than what they say in a signature. Just my !
I think there definitely should be limits on the size of a person's signature, the number of pictures, and the number of tickers. I agree that there should be no more than 3 tickers, and that they should only be tickers having to do with AG (like the 100 day challenge, or number of days until the opening of AGPLA, etc.). I don't really think that anything unrelated to AG should be in a siggy, unless it is something like a favorite quote, or a cute joke. In those cases, I think it should be limited to 1 quote or joke. If you have a picture of yourself (or your DD, DS, or DH) without a doll, I think you should put it in your avatar, not your signature. I think that any pics or tickers should be related to your AG dolls (or other similar dolls, with AG's) and AG in general. There shouldn't really be more than one picture in your sig, unless they are small, side-by-side pics. I'm not going to get into pixels and everything right now. I have *slow* dial-up, and even though probably the majority of the people on the board have a much faster connection, for those of us who don't, I don't think it's fair to have a whole mess of pictures in one signature, that ends up taking minutes to load, and slows down the loading of others' sigs. Everyone (or anyone) with me?

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this already, but the "stop" button at the top of your browser works to stop images from loading. I do this sometimes on Hostboard since I can't take the time to wait for everything to load. At least with my browser, all the text loads, then it goes back and loads the images, so this works for me when I don't want to wait.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I agree completely. Too many restrictive rules might make this less of a "fun" place to come to and more like school or work. I'd hate to see that happen, because not only would it discourage newbies, who might be jumped on because of their lack of knowledge of "the rules," but it would make people like me feel nervous anytime I decided to change my signature. I've been thinking a photo might be fun, since I love looking at other's dolls so much, but now I'm afraid to even try.Originally posted by anniebeez:

Please let me know the following:
1. Do large pictures slow your downloading time?
No-I like them!
2. How many tickers should be allowed?
I don't care, they don't bother me at all.
3. How many lines of text should be allowed?
As many as you want, scrolling doesn't bother me either.
4. Should we have a rule limiting bytes/pixels or just a general guideline?
General guideline.
Personally, I enjoy all the different pictures, tickers, quotes, etc. They help me remember who is posting, to me they are like different personalities. I never have a problem with anything loading, so that is not an issue with me. However, I understand that there are those who do have a problem with things loading slowly, and I'm sure that is frustrating.
I just hate to see too many restrictions on what is accepted because then I feel uncomfortable and afraid I will be doing something wrong. So whatever you all decide I hope it will just be clear and simple so everyone can easily follow the rules and enjoy the board.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">A board without enforced rules does NOT run smoothly. Been there, seen boards and communities totally fall apart because of a lack of rules. Message boards are not democracies. Tracey and the mods don't have to ask for our opinion, but I do think it's nice that they have.Too many restrictive rules might make this less of a "fun" place to come to and more like school or work. If a board is too "busy" looking, ie outrageous sigs, that's just as much of a turn-off as "too many rules".
